Liberal Defenders of Free Enterprise, Smaller Government

recyclebannisterI am not a political party kinda guy. I am more of a “black or white,” “right or wrong,” conservative or liberal,” “going to heaven or going to hell” kinda guy. But it still chapped my rear end to see a liberal, former Democrat Georgia Governor Roy Barnes, battling the “Republican” County Commission over its takeover of the sanitation industry.

In a day when what flows from politicians’ mouths is more “sounding brass and tinkling cymbal” (that’s “Bible-talk” for BS) than principle and conviction, it’s nice to have a Democrat lawyer around to set things right.

You say that Barnes is just doing it for the money? Hey, that’s “free enterprise,” baby!

Gwinnett County erred in granting two nonprofits the authority to regulate solid-waste collection and police powers to enforce the county’s solid-waste ordinance, the attorney for two trash haulers argued in court Wednesday.

Attorney Roy Barnes, representing plaintiffs Southern Sanitation and Sanitation Solutions, painted the arrangement as a private corporation being endowed with powers the county has abdicated.

Sarah Palin strikes back at critics

A Brit reporter’s take on last night’s speech by Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin. It’s a great read! An excerpt:

sarahpalin From the moment she walked on stage in this cavernous bear pit, bandbox smart in cream jacket, trim black skirt and black heels, she proved that John McCain knew exactly what he was doing when he picked her as running mate.

Hair piled into a slight beehive – more Sarah White House than Amy Winehouse – she blinked and smiled behind her geeky spectacles as the vast crowd went ballistic.

She’s a moose-hunting mum of five with a sledge-load of problems behind her own front door that workaday Americans can relate to.

Amen, Mitt Romney!

The following is an excerpt from Mitt Romney’s speech today addressing the role of faith in his life. The speech kicks off at 10:30; I will publish the full text afterward.

Amen, Mitt Romney! It is too bad that a majority of our politicians do not have the same understanding of the relationship between faith and government as does he.

“There are some who may feel that religion is not a matter to be seriously considered in the context of the weighty threats that face us. If so, they are at odds with the nation’s founders, for they, when our nation faced its greatest peril, sought the blessings of the Creator. And further, they discovered the essential connection between the survival of a free land and the protection of religious freedom. In John Adam’s words: ‘We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion… Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people.’
