“Say ‘Yes’ to America” rally coverage

This is my country, nachosThe “Say ‘Yes’ to America” rally in Gwinnett County, GA was a resounding success, despite a heavy rainstorm that moved through the area just prior to the event.  More details are to come, but for now here is some of the local news coverage.

Resounding success? I was on the corner of Five Forks Trickum Rd. and Sugarloaf Pkwy. today. There are two mexican restaurants on that corner. I arrived in that area before 5:30 to beat the rush and both restaurants were packed and had long waits. So much for the boycott. And what is it with the picture you have displayed. Why is the person holding a sign up for “nachos” to read? Or is the person refering to mexicans as nachos? This is what you call a success? That’s okay Bob. I’m sure you won’t allow this message to post just like the last message I left was censured.

(Bob says, “Here is a perfect example of your ‘conservatives are always evil’ bias. You read the sign and immediately conclude that the evil conservatives are calling Mexicans ‘nachos.’ Go back and read the sign again, Mike, with ‘tongue-in-cheek,’ because it is a pun.  If you need me to provide the translation for liberals, let me know.

Mike, a ‘success’ is when you accomplish what you set out to do. Perhaps your problem is that the rally didn’t accomplish the goal that you set for it.

“So here’s the question, Mike– what is your solution to the threat of illegal immigration?”)

Well at least you posted part of my post this time. You said, “(Bob says, “Here is a perfect example of your ‘conservatives are always evil’ bias.”

Wow! Here is a true statement of ignorance. I used to be a Republican (I am very sorry for that by the way given the corruption in Congress) and considered myself a fiscal conservative. I strongly supported the Contract With America (you remember the one…it said Republicans would clean up corruption in Washington, institute term limits, balance the budget, etc.) and I certainly don’t think conservatives are evil.

You continued, “You read the sign and immediately conclude that the evil conservatives are calling Mexicans ‘nachos.’ Go back and read the sign again, Mike, with ‘tongue-in-cheek,’ because it is a pun. If you need me to provide the translation for liberals, let me know. Mike, a ’success’ is when you accomplish what you set out to do. While I realize that we need to protect the border against terrorists coming through undetected I don’t think the solution to that is standing in a parking lot near a mexican restaurant protesting people that came to this country to find work. I don’t have an answer to how we protect our borders against terrorists. I’ve read that more people cross the Canadian border into America illegally than do people crossing the Mexican border. That’s a lot of border to protect. The only way, however, to stop people from leaving their homelands to find work in America is to make sure there are good jobs in their homeland. And quite frankly I don’t think that’s our governments job to do.

Here is another take on the illegal immigration issue – RECIDIVISM & CRIME! If illegals are coming here by breaking the law and the recidivism rate in our country is anywhere from 50 – 78% depending on crime, etc. (see http://www.tgorski.com/criminal_justice/criminal_recidivism_021212.htm), WHAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT WE ARE INVITING A BUNCH OF CRIMINALS INTO OUR COUNTRY? Hmmm…I thought this whole issue was to protect us from terrorists? Is the government protecting us by inviting those in who have already broken the law?
