Liberal Defenders of Free Enterprise, Smaller Government

I am not a political party kinda guy. I am more of a “black or white,” “right or wrong,” conservative or liberal,” “going to heaven or going to hell” kinda guy. But it still chapped my rear end to see a liberal, former Democrat Georgia Governor Roy Barnes, battling the “Republican” County Commission over its takeover of the sanitation industry.

In a day when what flows from politicians’ mouths is more “sounding brass and tinkling cymbal” (that’s “Bible-talk” for BS) than principle and conviction, it’s nice to have a Democrat lawyer around to set things right.

You say that Barnes is just doing it for the money? Hey, that’s “free enterprise,” baby!

Gwinnett County erred in granting two nonprofits the authority to regulate solid-waste collection and police powers to enforce the county’s solid-waste ordinance, the attorney for two trash haulers argued in court Wednesday.

Attorney Roy Barnes, representing plaintiffs Southern Sanitation and Sanitation Solutions, painted the arrangement as a private corporation being endowed with powers the county has abdicated.
