The Gwinnett County (GA) Commission finally seems to be getting its act together after its shaky first steps toward employment eligibility verification drew the attention of two contractors’ organizations.
The two groups sued, saying that the poorly-written ordinance required employers to open to inspection information that they could not legally reveal, like employees’ Social Security numbers. And they were right.
The county has tried to hammer out an agreement with the contractors in recent months after a federal judge indicated that he had serious concerns about the ordinance.
The Commission will conduct a public hearing on the new ordinance next Tuesday; however, the ordinance is not yet available for public review.
