After Barack Obama’s “historic” pronouncement of support for same-sex marriage, boxer Manny Pacquiao expressed his contrary belief to the National Conservative Examiner:

God’s words first … obey God’s law first before considering the laws of man,” Pacquiao told the Examiner. “God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married. It should not be of the same sex, so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Left immediately jumped on Pacquiao’s comments, demanding that sponsors drop him and boxing venues ban him from their arenas.

The absurdly-named “Think Progress” group joined the howl, inferring from Pacquiao’s reference to Sodom and Gomorrah, the ancient cities destroyed by God for their unseemly sexual practices, that his “comments imply the annihilation of gays and lesbians.”

Of course, Pacquiao never called for the death of gays and lesbians. Think Progress has since amended its story, but blamed the author of the original story for causing TP and other liberal media to over-react.

The reference to the passage in the Book of Leviticus 20 caused me to think about God and his “evolving” position on homosexuality and same-sex marriage….

[pause]

If you’re a Christian, your first thought after reading the previous paragraph was probably, “Wait! God is the same yesterday, today and forever. God doesn’t “evolve.” Yet, Christians are some of the first to totally abandon the tenets of the Old Testament for “God-is-love-so-anything-goes” in the New Testament. At the very least, Christians seem unable to respond when non-Christians use the “extremes” of the Old Testament as a tool to denigrate Christianity.

Think about it… there were always practical reasons for some of the now-considered-archaic OT restrictions. As we have become more “enlightened,” we have discovered, for example, that following Old Testament dietary guidelines have measurable physical benefit. I can’t think of an OT law that didn’t have some practical reason for its imposition and some benefit for today’s believer.

God’s law regarding homosexual activity is a perfect example. The practical negative consequences of such conduct are obvious. Bluntly stated, if it was bad for man in Old Testament times, why would it not be now? What has changed about homosexuality that would cause God to “reverse his position”? If homosexual conduct is now “good for you,” why didn’t Jesus counsel us all to be gay?

In truth, God did “evolve,” but not like our illustrious President. While God’s “position” on homosexuality hasn’t changed at all, the possible consequences of the act have. Before Jesus died, there was no salvation; the only consequence of homosexuality was death. Homosexuality is no less wrong today, but now there is forgiveness and redemption.

Conversely, acceptance of homosexuality (and, by extension, same-sex marriage) is no less detrimental to a community or a nation today than it was in olden days. The only difference, again, between a nation that accepts homosexuality and Sodom and Gomorrah of old is God’s love and forebearance.

There really is a Republican “establishment,” which is just a mind-set whereby those in power, at the “top of the tower,” to do or say whatever is necessary to stay at the top. It’s expected that they would keep the enemy from climbing the tower but, whenever necessary, they’ll knock a few of their own soldiers off the side of the tower as well.

When you hear Peter King and other elected officials criticize Newt Gingrich, keep in mind: you don’t even like these people. As a group, they have one of the lowest approval ratings of any group in our nation. You don’t trust them to make wise decisions about how our government should operate and you don’t trust them to tell you the truth. Why in the hell would you let them pick your Presidential candidate?

Keep in mind that Peter King and his ilk have an agenda– to maintain power. You, of course, have your own agenda… your own set of values and convictions. Why would you support a candidate who furthers Peter King’s agenda, and not your own?

There is no perfect candidate. Every political race is one of “the best of,” not “the best.” You didn’t run, so perfection isn’t an option.

The Establishment will tell you that someone like Gingrich can’t win… that he’s too much of a lightning rod. Why, tell me, would you want to elect someone who doesn’t have the motivation, the inspiration nor the conviction to correct the problems that we face in this country… problems that were, in large part, created by The Establishment?

That’s exactly who The Establishment wants, however… someone who will not be a threat to them.

I’ve said it again and again… let your values and your convictions pick your candidate.

From the Capital New York article:

But, King said, “The problem was, over a period of time, he couldnt stay focused. He was undisciplined. Too often, he made it about himself.”

via Pete King: Gingrich is condescending, undisciplined, and bad for the G.O.P. | Capital New York.
